We campaign to raise awareness of issues and are a voice for the people of Cheadle. The campaign work we do on behalf of one client can make a difference to many more people in the same situation. Successful campaigns in recent years include:
Client had been overpaid Child Tax Credits and we negotiated a repayment plan which she was managing to pay. Out of the blue she received a letter from HMRC saying that, as part of a regular review, she must provide details of her income/expenditure within 7 days or the repayment plan would be cancelled. The letter was sent 2nd Class post and received 6 days after issue, leaving the client just one day to contact HMRC. Working with central Citizens Advice, we successfully helped lobby HMRC to give longer, more realistic deadlines.
Client’s wife was severely disabled and had difficulties with bathing. Client was visited by a home selling company and the salesman saw first-hand how incapacitated wife was yet sold him 3 products that did not fulfil her needs. Items were not fit for the intended use so we explained that the client had been mis-sold the goods. In addition to laying out the client’s options for recompense, we informed central Citizens Advice who took the matter up with the Retail Ombudsman, thus ensuring that vulnerable customers like our client, had access to independent and considered negotiation if a problem arose
